Final Decisions
Confederation was within grasp; industries were settled and military was spread, but the wall of the French stood in the way. The matter of the French culture had to be discussed.
After hours of debating, the industries and military percentages were settled. All that remained was the matter of the French. Would French be an official language? Would the French be allowed to keep their culture? Canada East strongly supported their French culture, but the other colonies were all against the French culture. French population inhabits in the colonies; half of Nova Scotia's population is French. But adding French may cost more money if it were to become an official language. If the colonies did not add the French culture, what would happen to the French population living in Canada? So close to confederation, yet so far. In the end, Canada East did not confederate because of their French culture.
Although Canada East did not confederate, the rest of the colonies did.
